Albany, GA – Residents across southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama, including Albany and Dothan, should prepare for possible accumulating snow early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of southwest Georgia and portions of southeast Alabama as a cold front brings rain that may transition to snow near daybreak Sunday. Snowfall totals of up to one inch are possible, primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Rain is expected to develop during the overnight hours Saturday, with colder air moving in early Sunday morning. Forecasters say the highest probabilities for snow will be north and west of a line from Marianna, Florida, to Nashville, Georgia, placing Albany and Dothan within the most likely snow zone.

The overall window for snow or a wintry mix is expected to last one to three hours, with conditions improving later Sunday morning. Road temperatures are expected to remain mostly above freezing, limiting widespread travel issues.

Officials say minor slick spots are possible on bridges and overpasses during the early morning commute, but significant travel disruptions are not anticipated.

Residents are urged to use caution if traveling early Sunday and to stay updated as forecast details may change overnight.
