Albany, Georgia – Slow-moving thunderstorms are raising serious flood concerns across southwest Georgia, where up to 7 inches of rain could fall through early Saturday, triggering dangerous flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday morning for much of southwest Georgia, including Bainbridge, Blakely, and Albany. Rainfall totals are expected to range between 3 to 5 inches, with isolated areas potentially seeing as much as 7 inches. The slow pace of storms is compounding flooding risks, especially in poor drainage areas, creeks, and near rivers.

Local emergency managers warn that flooding could affect major roads, rural highways, and drainage systems throughout the region. Areas of concern include Route 82 near Albany, Highway 27 through Blakely, and smaller rural routes connecting to the Alabama and Florida state lines. Flash flooding may develop quickly, especially during the evening hours when rainfall rates intensify.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, charge devices, and prepare for possible travel delays or closures through Saturday morning.

The Flood Watch may be extended if rainfall continues to develop overnight.
