Albany, NY – A complex weather system will bring waves of rain and freezing rain to eastern and northern New York beginning Friday night, with impacts expected to last through 8 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, precipitation will begin late Friday and continue in rounds through the weekend. While the Albany metro and surrounding areas are expected to receive mainly rain, locations north of Interstate 90, including Watertown, Glens Falls, and Lebanon, could see significant ice accumulation—ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 inches—especially Saturday night into Sunday.

Total liquid precipitation is forecast to range from 1.5 to 2 inches in northern counties, such as Herkimer, Newcomb, and Old Forge, with lighter rainfall of 0.5 to 1 inch likely further south in places like Poughkeepsie and Binghamton.

Temperatures will sharply vary from north to south due to a stalled front. Northern regions may see highs only in the 30s and 40s, while southern areas could reach the 60s and 70s.

Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly in northern zones where freezing rain may cause slick roads and downed tree limbs. Residents should monitor local alerts and limit travel during peak precipitation times.
