Albany, NY – A stronger cold snap is expected across upstate New York tonight, with the National Weather Service issuing multiple freeze warnings for Thursday morning.
According to NWS offices in Buffalo, Binghamton, and Albany, sub-freezing temperatures between the upper 20s and low 30s are forecast from midnight until 8 or 9 a.m. Thursday.
- The Buffalo NWS has issued a freeze warning for Lewis County, including Lowville, where lows may dip into the upper 20s.
- The Binghamton NWS has a freeze warning for Delaware, Northern Oneida, and Otsego counties, with freezing conditions especially likely in valleys near Walton, Delhi, Boonville, and Oneonta.
- The Albany NWS issued a freeze warning for Schoharie, Western Greene, and Western Ulster counties, including Cobleskill, Hunter, Windham, and Woodstock.
Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive plants, and harm unprotected outdoor plumbing. Homeowners are urged to cover plants, wrap outdoor pipes, and drain sprinkler systems before temperatures fall.
This system is part of a widespread Northeast cold blast, with frost and freeze advisories stretching across Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine.
