Albany, NY – The National Weather Service in Albany warns that an Arctic cold front will cross the region today, bringing scattered snow squalls and rapidly changing travel conditions from late morning through the afternoon.

Forecasters say snow squalls—brief but intense bursts of snow combined with gusty winds—could cause whiteout visibility and slick roads within minutes. The highest risk period runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in the Adirondacks and Mohawk Valley before moving southeast through Albany, Pittsfield, and Poughkeepsie.

The NWS warns that these conditions can lead to dangerous travel, especially on I-87, I-88, and I-90. Motorists are advised to slow down, turn on headlights, and avoid slamming brakes if caught in a squall. If possible, delay travel until the front passes.

Once the squalls move through, temperatures will drop sharply behind the Arctic front, keeping roads icy into the evening.
