Valdez, AK – Snow and gusty winds continue to impact Valdez and the Thompson Pass region as a Winter Weather Advisory remains active until Friday morning. The National Weather Service predicts snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and wind gusts reaching 35 mph.

According to the NWS, snow and blowing snow have already created hazardous conditions, reducing visibility to half a mile. These issues are expected to persist through the early hours of Friday. Valdez could see up to 10 inches of snow by Saturday morning.

Drivers traveling along the Richardson Highway and through Thompson Pass should prepare for slippery roads and drifting snow. The strongest winds are expected overnight, with conditions improving as winds diminish Friday morning. However, snowfall will continue through Friday, potentially adding 3 to 6 inches in localized areas.

Residents are advised to slow down and drive cautiously. For updated road conditions, travelers can contact 511 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
