Fairbanks, AK – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Dalton Highway Summits as snow and gusty winds create hazardous travel conditions through 10 AM AKDT Saturday, November 1.

According to the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches are expected, with wind gusts up to 30 mph. The advisory covers key stretches of the Dalton Highway from Milepost 39 to Milepost 164, including the Yukon River Bridge, Prospect Creek, Finger Mountain, and Gobblers Knob.

Forecasters warn that travel could be very difficult, particularly at higher elevations where the heaviest snowfall and strongest winds will occur. The Friday morning and evening commutes could be especially impacted by blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and allow extra time for travel. Surfaces like stairs, sidewalks, and driveways could also become icy and slippery, posing a risk of falls and injuries.

Conditions are expected to improve late Saturday morning as snow tapers off and winds gradually weaken. Motorists can check current road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
