Fairbanks, AK – A winter storm watch has been issued for Alaska’s Eastern North Slope and Central/Eastern Brooks Range. This watch, in effect from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night, predicts severe winter weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, the region may see snow accumulations of 6 to 14 inches, with areas near the Dalton Highway and north of Atigun Pass potentially receiving up to 12 inches. Strong winds, gusting up to 40 mph along the coast, are expected to accompany the heavy snowfall, creating poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions.

Residents should prepare for difficult travel due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. The service warns of challenging conditions along key travel routes, particularly in areas near the Beaufort Sea Coast and Arctic Plains. Blowing snow could significantly impair road visibility, making driving treacherous. Those planning travel should monitor conditions and consider delaying trips until after the storm subsides.
