Fairbanks, AK – The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended a Winter Storm Warning for parts of Central Alaska, including the Yukon Flats and White Mountains, in effect until noon Sunday.

According to the NWS, an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow are expected across the region, bringing continued travel challenges into Sunday morning. The heaviest snow is likely north and east of Eagle Summit, with difficult conditions reported along portions of the Steese and Elliott Highways.

The warning covers several communities and routes, including Fort Yukon, Circle, Livengood, Beaver, Central, and Circle Hot Springs. Drivers using the Dalton Highway (MP 0–38) and Steese Highway (MP 85–124) should anticipate slick and snow-covered roads.

Forecasters caution that visibility may drop rapidly in heavier snow bands. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure vehicles are stocked with emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights.

Road updates for Alaska can be obtained by calling 511. Snow is expected to taper off by Sunday afternoon, with cold temperatures persisting into early next week.
