Fairbanks, AK – The National Weather Service in Fairbanks is forecasting the first widespread snowfall of the season across western and northern Alaska this weekend, with accumulations between 2 and 6 inches expected in some areas.

According to the latest forecast map, the highest totals are expected in the Western Brooks Range, the Alaska Range, and coastal regions, including Point Hope, Wales, and Gambell, where 3 to 6 inches of snow could accumulate by Sunday.

Further inland, communities such as Fairbanks, Galena, Kotzebue, and McGrath may see 1 to 2 inches, while the North Slope and interior valleys are expected to receive lighter amounts under 1 inch.

Forecasters say the system will continue through the weekend, bringing slippery roads, reduced visibility, and travel challenges in affected regions. This snowfall marks an early sign of Alaska’s rapidly approaching winter season.

Residents are advised to check local road conditions, prepare vehicles for winter driving, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service as additional advisories may be issued.
