Alaska – Dangerous and potentially damaging winds are continuing across parts of Southcentral Alaska, with High Wind Warnings remaining in effect through Monday for coastal and inland communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Anchorage, a High Wind Warning remains in effect until noon AKST Monday for Valdez and Thompson Pass. Winds in Valdez are expected to range from 30 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, while Thompson Pass could experience northeast winds of 45 to 60 mph with gusts reaching 80 mph.

Forecasters note there will be two peak wind periods, one Sunday morning and another overnight into Monday morning. While winds may briefly weaken between these peaks, conditions will remain strong and gusty. Blowing and drifting snow is expected in exposed areas, potentially complicating travel.

A separate High Wind Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. AKST Monday for the Lower Matanuska Valley, including Palmer, Wasilla, and Big Lake. Northeast winds of 35 to 50 mph are forecast, with gusts up to 80 mph. Winds are expected to strengthen through Sunday and peak from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, slowly weakening late Monday.

The National Weather Service warns that high winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles and in areas exposed to strong crosswinds.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, prepare for possible power disruptions, and use caution if travel is necessary. Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday.
