Anchorage, AK – A High Wind Watch has been issued for Anchorage and surrounding areas, with strong winds expected to develop Saturday evening and persist through early Sunday morning. The most affected area will be the Anchorage Hillside, where wind gusts could reach up to 75 mph. Lower elevations could also experience gusts up to 45 mph, raising concerns about the potential for downed trees and power outages.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Anchorage, recent heavy rains have left the ground saturated, increasing the likelihood of trees toppling over under the force of these powerful winds. The NWS advises residents to secure any loose objects that could be blown around, such as patio furniture and trash cans.

The weather forecast for Anchorage also includes heavy rain throughout Saturday, with an 85% chance of rain continuing into Sunday. Temperatures will range between 45 and 58 degrees over the weekend, with conditions improving slightly by Monday as rain chances decrease to 50%.

Travelers are advised to use caution, as high winds combined with saturated ground could make driving difficult, particularly in areas prone to wind exposure. Residents should stay informed and prepared for possible power outages and hazardous conditions.
