Juneau, AK – Snow bands sweeping across Southeast Alaska overnight could quickly coat roads and neighborhoods with fresh accumulation, creating slippery travel conditions through the early morning hours Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Juneau, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday for the City and Borough of Juneau and Prince of Wales Island, where additional snowfall of up to 3 inches is possible as scattered but intense snow showers move through the region.

Communities including Juneau, Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Coffman Cove, and Thorne Bay may experience rapidly changing conditions as bands of snow move southwest to northeast across the Panhandle. Visibility and road traction can shift quickly during heavier bursts of snow.

Additional advisories cover Petersburg, Wrangell, Kake, and Port Alexander, where 1 to 3 inches of additional snow may accumulate before the system weakens early Tuesday. Farther north on Eastern Chichagof Island, including Hoonah and Tenakee Springs, snowfall totals could reach 1 to 7 inches through Tuesday afternoon, leading to more significant travel disruptions.

Drivers across Southeast Alaska are urged to slow down and allow extra stopping distance, especially on untreated roads and bridges. Travelers can check the latest road information through Alaska’s 511 system at 511.alaska.gov.

Snow showers are expected to gradually diminish later Tuesday, though conditions may remain uneven across the region due to the scattered nature of the snow bands. Additional updates may be issued if heavier snow persists.
