Glacier View, Alaska – A minor earthquake rattled parts of Southcentral Alaska Monday afternoon after a magnitude 3.0 tremor struck roughly 9 kilometers south-southwest of Glacier View, an area northeast of Anchorage. While the quake was relatively small, it was strong enough to be noticed by residents in nearby communities, particularly in quiet indoor settings.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the earthquake occurred on Monday at 11:45 AM local time and originated at a depth of about 22 kilometers beneath the surface. The event was automatically reviewed and is part of ongoing seismic activity common along Alaska’s active fault systems.

The epicenter was located northeast of Anchorage, and light shaking may have been felt in parts of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the eastern Anchorage Bowl. No injuries, damage, or power disruptions were immediately reported, and emergency managers did not issue any advisories following the quake.

Alaska experiences thousands of earthquakes each year, most of them small. Officials remind residents to review earthquake safety plans, secure heavy furniture, and be prepared for stronger events, which can occur without warning.

Seismologists continue to monitor the region, and residents who felt the shaking are encouraged to submit reports to help refine impact data. Additional updates will be issued if aftershocks or new activity develop.
