Anchorage, AK – The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Hurricane Force Wind Warning for portions of the Northern Gulf of Alaska, including areas near the Barren Islands, Kodiak Island, and the Cook Inlet region.

According to the NWS Coastal Waters Forecast, winds are expected to increase rapidly on Wednesday, reaching sustained speeds of 55 knots and strengthening to 65 knots by the afternoon. Seas are forecast to build from 18 feet to 24 feet, creating extremely dangerous conditions for vessels and offshore operations.

The storm system will continue through Wednesday night, with winds gradually decreasing to 40 knots, but large seas will persist through Thursday. Mariners are urged to avoid travel and secure vessels in safe harbor ahead of deteriorating conditions.

The National Weather Service warns that these conditions pose a serious threat to marine safety, with potential for damage to smaller craft and difficulty maintaining course in open waters.
