Alamosa, Colorado — Residents across the San Luis Valley are preparing for a sharp overnight chill as a Freeze Warning goes into effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, with temperatures expected to fall into the mid-20s. The early-season cold could damage late harvest crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the warning covers much of the San Luis Valley, including Alamosa, Del Norte, Monte Vista, Antonito, and Center. Forecasters say clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to plummet quickly after sunset Saturday, leading to widespread frost formation by dawn.
Homeowners are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and ensure outdoor faucets are insulated. Agricultural producers should prepare irrigation lines and protect livestock water supplies from freezing.
The cold spell is expected to be brief, with daytime highs rebounding into the 50s by Sunday afternoon. However, another round of frost is possible early next week if calm, dry conditions persist.
