Gainesville, FL – A 20-year-old Gainesville man allegedly fled a traffic stop early Wednesday morning before deputies recovered a loaded AR-15 rifle from his backpack, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

According to ACSO, the incident began during the early hours of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, when Deputy T. Jovic attempted a traffic stop on SW 20th Ave in Gainesville. The deputy reportedly approached a man riding a scooter eastbound while wearing a full face mask. Based on the time of night and the way the individual was dressed, Jovic suspected possible criminal activity and initiated the stop.

Deputies say the man, identified as Adasian Armstrong, allegedly jumped from the scooter and ran. During the foot chase, Armstrong allegedly ignored commands to stop and was tased when he continued to flee. According to authorities, he resisted being detained, leading to a brief struggle before deputies gained control and placed him under arrest.

A search incident to arrest was conducted, and deputies reported finding an AR-15 rifle loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition inside Armstrong’s backpack. According to ACSO, Armstrong is a convicted felon currently on probation for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement.

Armstrong was charged with 22 counts, including Possession of a Weapon or Ammo by a Convicted Felon, Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Unlawful Carry of a Concealed Firearm, Use or Display of a Weapon During a Felony Under Indictment, and Wearing a Mask or Hood on Public Property.

No injuries to deputies were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
