Gainesville, FL – Deputies in Alachua County arrested a man Thursday afternoon after discovering methamphetamine inside a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop along Newberry Road.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, on October 30, 2025, deputies received real-time intelligence that a stolen silver Chrysler van from Levy County was traveling eastbound on West Newberry Road near the 12200 block.
Deputy S.T. Mickle spotted the van around the 7500 block of W. Newberry Rd and confirmed through the Combined Communications Center that it was the same stolen vehicle. Deputies conducted a high-risk stop near 6000 Newberry Rd, detaining all occupants, including 41-year-old Daniel Johnson, who was allegedly in control of the van.
While on scene, Johnson requested to retrieve his wallet from inside the vehicle. During a search, deputies reportedly found a clear, rocky substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
After interviews and evidence review, authorities determined Johnson had physical control of the stolen van. The sheriff’s office has not yet released additional charges or bond details.
