Huntsville, AL – Heavy rain continues across northern Alabama this morning, causing concerns for localized flooding and hazardous road conditions. Rainfall rates of up to 0.75 inches per hour are expected through sunrise, particularly along major routes such as I-565 and US-231. Drivers are urged to exercise caution due to standing water on roads.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rain is moving eastward but will linger across the area through early Sunday. The rain is forecast to ease by mid-morning, with cloudy skies and highs near 62°F expected later in the day. Gusty winds up to 25 mph may also impact travel.

Looking ahead, Sunday night will bring mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures, dropping to a low near 47°F. Monday offers a break in the wet weather, with sunny conditions and highs around 63°F. However, scattered showers may return Monday night into Tuesday morning, accompanied by cloudy skies and highs near 59°F.

For New Year’s Eve, Huntsville residents can expect dry weather and partly cloudy skies, with a high of 48°F during the day and lows dipping to 28°F overnight. This clear trend will continue into New Year’s Day, bringing sunny skies and brisk conditions, ideal for outdoor celebrations.
