BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Central Alabama will turn sharply colder early next week, with widespread freezing temperatures expected Monday and Tuesday mornings as the season’s first major cold snap arrives.
According to the National Weather Service Birmingham, lows are forecast to dip into the low 30s by daybreak Monday, followed by even colder readings in the mid-20s across much of the region Tuesday morning. Areas along and north of I-20—including Birmingham, Jasper, and Gadsden—could experience their first hard freeze of the season, ending the growing season for most of central Alabama.
Forecasters urge residents to take precautions now: cover outdoor faucets, drain garden hoses, and protect sensitive plants and pets from the cold. Vehicle owners should check antifreeze levels and park indoors where possible. The chill will follow a dry weekend and settle in under clear skies, allowing temperatures to drop quickly after sunset both nights.
By midweek, a gradual warm-up is expected, but mornings will remain frosty through Wednesday. The cold pattern marks a notable shift toward winter across the Deep South, with overnight lows running 10–15 degrees below normal for early November.
