HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – A pair of storm systems will bring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee Friday and Saturday evenings, prompting forecasters to urge residents to stay alert and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, there is a Level 1 of 5 (Marginal Risk) both nights, with the main threats being gusty to damaging winds and brief heavy rain. A very low chance of an isolated tornado exists Friday evening, primarily west of Interstate 65. Storms are expected to develop after 7 p.m. Friday and again around 6 p.m. Saturday, continuing into the early morning hours.

“Confidence remains low, but any storm that strengthens could produce strong wind gusts or a quick spin-up tornado,” forecasters said. Residents are advised to bring in loose outdoor items, move vehicles away from trees, and seek sturdy shelter if warnings are issued.

Emergency managers remind everyone to enable phone alerts, monitor NOAA Weather Radio, and stay tuned to local TV or social media updates. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, move indoors immediately.

The unsettled pattern will ease Sunday as cooler, drier air moves into the Tennessee Valley.
