Birmingham, AL – Alabama will plunge into winter-like cold early next week as an Arctic front sweeps south, bringing widespread subfreezing temperatures to the state. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the front will surge through Monday, November 10, with a deep freeze settling in by early Tuesday morning, November 11.

Forecast lows are expected to drop to 24°F in Huntsville, 26°F in Birmingham, 27°F in Montgomery, and around 30°F in Mobile, with wind chills falling into the upper-teens across northern Alabama. Even coastal communities near Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island are forecast to reach the mid-30s with patchy frost.

The National Weather Service offices in Birmingham and Mobile have issued frost and freeze alerts covering the entire state, warning that this Arctic blast will end the growing season from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast. Forecasters say this is the coldest air mass to reach Alabama so far this season and among the earliest widespread November freezes in recent years.

Brisk northwest winds will gust 20–30 mph Monday night, driving apparent temperatures even lower. The Weather Prediction Center’s Day 3–7 Hazards Outlook highlights Alabama inside a large “Frost/Freeze” corridor stretching from Mississippi to the Carolinas.

Tuesday’s highs will remain well below normal, only reaching the low-40s north and upper-40s south. Skies will clear, but the cold air will linger through midweek before a slow warming trend develops.

Residents are urged to wrap exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and cover sensitive vegetation. Drivers should use caution on bridges and shaded roads where frost may form overnight.
