Alabama – A stiff northwest wind sweeps across the Tennessee Valley this morning, rustling trees and pushing chilly air across Huntsville neighborhoods. Commuters stepping outside feel the bite immediately as gusty winds combine with temperatures hovering in the low 40s.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. across north-central and northeast Alabama. Northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will continue through the afternoon, creating difficult driving conditions on open roads.
Drivers along Interstate 565, U.S. Highway 72, and Interstate 65 should expect occasional crosswinds. High-profile vehicles may feel stronger gusts, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.
Huntsville began the morning near 42°F at Madison County Executive Airport, with cloudy skies and breezy conditions. A few light rain or snow sprinkles could pass through early today, though little accumulation is expected.
The larger concern arrives tonight.
Forecasters warn a Freeze Warning begins at 8 p.m. and continues into Tuesday morning, when temperatures may drop to around 26°F across the Huntsville metro. Sensitive plants and early spring gardens could be damaged.
Another freeze is possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as temperatures dip again before the region finally warms.
Residents should cover plants, disconnect hoses, and protect outdoor plumbing where possible. Early spring vegetation remains especially vulnerable after recent mild weather.
The cold snap fades quickly by midweek. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 45°F, followed by a gradual warming trend.
By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures rebound to about 59°F, and a stronger surge of spring warmth arrives later in the week. Highs could reach the upper 60s Thursday, with even warmer weather expected by Friday.
