Birmingham, AL – A chilly pattern will close out October across Alabama, with temperatures plunging into the 30s and patchy frost possible by Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service Birmingham.

Forecasters say showers will linger through midday Monday, returning Tuesday night into Wednesday, with 1 to 3 inches of rain possible across central Alabama. Cloudy skies and cooler air will follow as a strong cold front sweeps through midweek.

By Thursday morning, lows are expected to dip into the upper 30s to low 40s, and by Friday and Saturday mornings, many locations — including Birmingham, Anniston, and Tuscaloosa — could see readings near or below 37°F. The NWS warns that patchy frost may develop, particularly in sheltered or rural areas early Saturday.

After the front passes, skies should clear Friday, leading to a crisp and sunny weekend. Afternoon highs will stay in the 60s to low 70s, marking one of the coolest stretches of the fall season so far.

Residents are encouraged to protect sensitive plants and prepare for cold morning commutes late in the week.
