HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A warm, calm start to the weekend will shift to wetter conditions Sunday morning as a weak front slides through North Alabama. Temperatures will remain mild, but brief rain showers could disrupt travel and outdoor plans before sunshine returns to start the new week.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder are possible Sunday morning, especially along I-565 and U.S. 72. Gusty winds up to 25 mph could develop as the front pushes through Madison, Athens, and Decatur. While severe weather is not expected, drivers should stay alert to sudden downpours and slick roads.

Residents planning to visit local pumpkin patches or attend Sunday church services should keep rain gear handy early in the day. Conditions will dry out quickly by afternoon as drier air moves in from the northwest. By evening, skies will clear and temperatures will dip into the mid-40s, bringing a crisp feel to the air.

Monday and Tuesday bring classic fall comfort — abundant sunshine, light winds, and highs in the low 70s. The region will enjoy a string of pleasant days ideal for leaf-viewing, yard work, or preparing outdoor Halloween displays.

Looking ahead, another weak system may brush the area Tuesday night or Wednesday with only a slim chance of light rain, followed by more sunshine to close out the week.
