Huntsville, AL – A significant weather event is forecasted to impact north-central Alabama and parts of Tennessee this weekend, as a cold front moves through the Tennessee Valley. The most likely window for severe storms is from 11 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday. This system poses potential hazards including damaging winds, tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and large hail.
According to the National Weather Service, areas of northwestern Alabama, including Huntsville and surrounding communities, are under a moderate risk of severe weather, with potential flooding concerns. The storms are expected to bring rapid downpours, possibly leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities warn that just six inches of fast-moving water can be enough to knock over and carry away an adult, while 12 inches could move a small car.
Residents are urged to stay informed, keep an emergency kit ready, and have a safety plan in place in case severe weather strikes overnight. Authorities also recommend keeping multiple sources of weather information on hand to receive timely warnings, especially if storms occur during the night.
