Huntsville, Alabama – Scattered storms will intensify across North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee this afternoon, bringing the threat of flash flooding, lightning, and gusty winds just as temperatures peak in the low 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, tropical moisture will fuel a 40% to 60% chance of strong to severe storms Thursday afternoon and evening. The heaviest downpours may lead to water ponding on roads, especially in urban and low-lying areas, and isolated flooding is possible.
Communities from Decatur to Scottsboro could see the most intense cells, while I-565 and Highway 72 may experience reduced visibility during peak travel hours. Lightning and erratic wind gusts could also impact outdoor plans and power lines.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware throughout the day, monitor local alerts, and avoid driving through flooded roads. If thunder roars, head indoors and stay sheltered during active storms.
Storm activity is expected to taper off later tonight, but additional rounds of rain may develop into the weekend.
