Birmingham, Alabama – Scattered showers and thunderstorms will keep much of Alabama wet and steamy today, with the highest rain chances targeting Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and areas east through Wednesday night. Afternoon highs will surge into the low to mid 90s, making for a hot, muggy stretch as storms drift in from the southeast.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, scattered showers and thunderstorms will peak from midday through evening, especially along the I-20 corridor from Tuscaloosa to Anniston. Rain chances stay highest east of I-65, tapering off after midnight. Lows tonight dip into the low to mid 70s across Central Alabama, with spotty showers lingering northeast.
Expect wet roads and reduced visibility at times. Commuters on I-65, US 280, and I-20 should plan for slowdowns during afternoon and evening storms. Residents in Montgomery, Selma, and Clanton are urged to monitor for lightning and brief heavy downpours. Charging devices and reviewing severe weather plans is recommended in case isolated storms turn strong.
This marks the third straight day of summer storms for the region—similar to July patterns seen in recent years. While Thursday brings another round of scattered showers and highs in the 90s, drier weather could return for the weekend.
Stay tuned: More advisories may be issued as storm chances linger through Thursday.
