Huntsville, Alabama – A stretch of damp, unsettled weather is setting the stage for a much colder and potentially hazardous finish to the week across North Alabama, with wintry accumulations possible by Friday night into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, warmer but wet conditions will linger through Thursday night as periods of rain move across the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures will remain above freezing during the day, but colder air will begin filtering in late Friday, increasing the risk for a transition to wintry precipitation.
Wednesday brings scattered afternoon rain with highs reaching the upper 40s to low 50s across Madison, Limestone, Morgan, and Jackson counties. Rain chances remain elevated into Wednesday night, with lows dropping into the mid to upper 30s. Thursday stays unsettled, with additional showers and daytime highs in the mid to upper 40s before colder air deepens Thursday night.
By Friday, morning rain may taper briefly before colder temperatures arrive late in the day. Highs will struggle to reach the mid 40s, then fall quickly Friday night as a wintry mix becomes possible. Saturday currently shows the highest concern, with a 60 to 80 percent chance of snow or mixed precipitation and temperatures stuck in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees. Travel impacts, slick bridges, and power issues are possible if accumulating snow or ice develops.
Residents are urged to limit non-essential travel late Friday night and Saturday, protect pets and pipes, and keep flammable items away from space heaters. More advisories or winter alerts may be issued as confidence increases, and residents should monitor updates through the weekend.
