Alabama Weather Alert: Huntsville Faces Sunday Storms and Monday Thunder Threat Along US-72

Huntsville, Alabama – Alabama’s first taste of summer heat is arriving this weekend, but it won’t come without disruption. Storms could drench parts of Madison County and slow traffic along US-72 starting Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, showers and thunderstorms are likely from late Sunday morning through evening, with a 70% chance of rain and gusty winds possible. Partly sunny skies and a high near 84°F will give way to increased storm activity after 1 p.m., especially south and east of Huntsville.

Monday will see more summer-like conditions. A high of 87°F and calm morning winds will shift to southerly breezes by afternoon. Thunderstorms may return by Monday night, with a 20% chance of rain after midnight. Showers are expected to ramp up again Tuesday with a 70% chance of rain and slightly cooler highs in the upper 60s.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible during Sunday’s heaviest downpours. Residents should avoid non-essential travel during storm hours and keep mobile devices charged in case of outages.

Showers continue into Wednesday, but clearer skies are expected by Thursday and Friday as temperatures hover near 75°F.
