Montgomery, AL – A frost advisory has been issued for much of central Alabama, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 32°F early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Friday. The affected areas include Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Russell, Sumter, and Tallapoosa counties.
Residents in these areas should take precautions to protect sensitive outdoor plants, as frost formation could damage or kill unprotected vegetation. Bringing potted plants indoors or covering them with frost cloths or blankets is recommended.
The cold temperatures follow a stretch of mild weather, marking an abrupt shift in conditions. While Alabama is no stranger to early spring temperature fluctuations, this advisory serves as a reminder for gardeners and farmers to take necessary precautions.
Warmer temperatures are expected to return by the weekend, but until then, residents should be mindful of the chilly overnight conditions. For further updates, check local forecasts and stay informed on changing weather patterns.
