Montgomery, AL – A frost advisory remains in effect for central and southern Alabama from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT on Friday, as temperatures are expected to dip as low as 32 degrees. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham issued the advisory for 20 counties, including Montgomery, Lee, Dallas, and Autauga.
According to the NWS, frost formation could damage sensitive outdoor vegetation, posing a risk to crops and gardens. Residents are advised to cover plants or bring them indoors to prevent frost damage.
The affected areas include cities such as Montgomery, Auburn, Selma, Prattville, and Phenix City. Overnight temperatures will hover around freezing, with frost expected in rural and low-lying locations.
Officials recommend taking precautionary measures to protect plants and outdoor pets from the cold. While no travel hazards are expected, motorists should be mindful of potential icy patches on bridges and overpasses early in the morning.
Warmer temperatures are forecasted later in the day, with highs reaching the mid-50s to low 60s by Friday afternoon. This brief cold snap follows a week of mild spring weather, reminding residents that late-season frosts can still occur.
Stay updated with local forecasts and prepare accordingly to minimize frost-related damage.
