Alabama Weather Alert: Flash Flood Risk and Thunderstorms in Huntsville Through Sunday Night, Roadways Impacted

Huntsville, AL – A spring storm system is drenching northern Alabama, triggering flash flood warnings and creating dangerous travel conditions in Huntsville through early Monday. Multiple inches of rainfall have already fallen, overwhelming drainage systems and impacting key routes like U.S. 231 and I-565.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 6:15 a.m. Monday, with a Flood Watch continuing until 7 p.m. Sunday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some producing heavy rain, are expected through Sunday evening. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall overnight.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and heed all detours. Flooding may persist in low-lying areas, urban streets, and near creeks and streams. Never drive across flooded roadways.

Tonight, southeast winds near 10 mph could gust up to 25 mph. Showers continue through the night with thunder possible. Temperatures will remain mild, near 64°F.

Monday will bring mostly cloudy skies with a high of 73°F and scattered afternoon storms. Winds shift southwest at 10 mph, keeping humidity high.
