Huntsville, Ala. – Triple-digit heat index values are gripping northern Alabama and parts of southern middle Tennessee, with temperatures making it feel as hot as 107°F through 7 p.m. Friday. Cities including Huntsville, Florence, and Fayetteville are under a Heat Advisory as oppressive heat and humidity increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory spans Lauderdale, Madison, Colbert, Limestone, Franklin, and other counties across the Tennessee Valley. It remains in effect until Friday evening, covering cities such as Decatur, Muscle Shoals, Cullman, Scottsboro, and Fort Payne.

Outdoor workers, older adults, and those without air conditioning face the highest risk. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Public cooling centers may be open in some counties.

This marks one of the hottest stretches of the season so far, with some locations nearing record highs for late June. Local hospitals have reported an uptick in heat exhaustion cases this week.

Warnings will stay active through Friday, and further advisories are possible into the weekend if temperatures remain elevated.
