Huntsville, AL – Thunderstorms and damaging winds are expected across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee beginning Sunday evening, with the greatest threat in Huntsville between 7 p.m. and midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) severe weather threat covers the region from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. CDT. Storms may become strong to severe, especially west of Interstate 65, bringing damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and possibly hail or an isolated tornado.

Cities such as Florence and Russellville could experience storms between 6–9 p.m., while Fayetteville and Sewanee are likely affected during the same period. Areas like Cullman and Fort Payne could see the strongest impacts between 9 p.m. and midnight.

Wind gusts from non-thunderstorm activity may also reach 30 mph, increasing the risk of falling limbs and localized power outages. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and remain weather-aware.

Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather apps, radios, and outdoor sirens. Seek shelter immediately if threatening conditions develop. Be especially cautious while driving through storm-affected areas tonight.
