Birmingham, AL – A line of severe storms is expected to sweep across Alabama beginning Sunday night, bringing threats of damaging winds and hail to several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, storms will begin moving through northwest Alabama around 8 p.m. Sunday, continuing southeast through 4 a.m. Monday. Gusts could reach up to 60 mph, with hail potentially reaching quarter-size, especially in higher-risk areas such as Fayette and Lamar counties.

Central Alabama cities including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston are expected to see the most intense weather between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Southern regions such as Montgomery, Selma, and Troy could experience severe activity as late as 4 a.m.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive alerts overnight and to remain indoors during the peak storm hours. NWS officials also recommend charging devices and securing outdoor items.

Though this storm system is typical for early spring in Alabama, officials warn the timing and strength of these storms increase the risk of overnight impacts. Drivers should use caution and avoid travel if possible during severe weather periods.

Stay tuned to local alerts and be prepared to act quickly if warnings are issued.
