Mobile, Alabama – Secure outdoor furniture and prepare for a sharp overnight freeze as wind chills drop to 15 degrees inland by 3 a.m. Monday, following a day of 40 mph wind gusts across southwest Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. CST Sunday for much of south central and southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. Northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will continue to snap small branches and create hazardous driving conditions, especially on elevated roadways and bridges. A Cold Weather Advisory takes effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. CST Monday.
In Alabama, counties including Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Covington and Butler will feel wind chills between 15 and 20 degrees before sunrise Monday. Along the I-65 corridor from Mobile to Evergreen, crosswinds may push high-profile vehicles off center. Coastal communities such as Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island will see slightly higher wind chills, ranging from 20 to 25 degrees.
In northwest Florida, Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties, including Pensacola, Milton, Destin and Fort Walton Beach, will wake up to biting northwest winds and wind chills near 20 degrees.
Bring pets indoors, dress in layers with hats and gloves, and limit time outside during the early morning hours. Additional advisories could be issued if temperatures fall lower than expected overnight.
