Birmingham, AL – After several dry weeks, much-needed rainfall is set to return to central Alabama Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Forecasters are calling for a medium to high chance of 1 to 2 inches of rain across much of the region from October 27–28, with locally higher totals possible. The system is expected to bring widespread showers and a few embedded thunderstorms as it tracks eastward.

While the rainfall will be beneficial for drought-stricken areas, forecasters note that an additional chance for showers may arrive by midweek, keeping the ground damp through much of the week.

Following the rain, cooler temperatures will settle in, bringing highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s by mid-to-late week.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for potential travel impacts during heavier rainfall periods.
