Huntsville, Alabama – An EF-1 tornado touched down near Trenton in Jackson County on May 20, carving a 10.5-mile path through northeast Alabama and reaching peak winds of 110 mph, according to a new storm survey released Thursday by the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

According to NWS meteorologists, the tornado developed at 7:14 p.m. and was on the ground for 14 minutes before lifting just past Highway 65. Aerial imagery later revealed additional damage east of the initial track, prompting officials to extend the tornado’s documented path. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The twister tore through wooded areas and rural communities, snapping trees and damaging structures along its route. Residents along Highway 65 were urged to remain alert as clean-up efforts continue and utility crews restore power in affected pockets.

Nearby, a second tornado—a stronger EF-2—hit Killingsworth Cove just minutes earlier, with winds peaking at 134 mph. That tornado followed a 6.76-mile path and was also confirmed Thursday after further analysis of radar and ground-level imagery.

Both storms were part of a severe weather outbreak across the region. While no additional tornadoes have been confirmed, the NWS cautions that further updates may follow as surveys continue.
