Franklin County, Tenn. – A weak but fast-moving tornado briefly touched down in southern Franklin County on Wednesday afternoon, cutting across the Little Crow Creek area near the Alabama-Tennessee line. The National Weather Service in Huntsville confirmed the storm reached EF-0 strength, with winds peaking at 85 mph.

According to the NWS survey, the twister touched down around 3:47 p.m. and remained on the ground for about one minute, carving a 0.26-mile path just east of Sinking Cove Road. The tornado reached a maximum width of 100 yards but caused no reported injuries or fatalities. Local emergency management assisted in documenting the event using drone imagery.

While the tornado was brief, residents are reminded that late-summer storms in the Tennessee Valley can still spin up sudden, localized damage. Officials recommend keeping cell phones charged and weather alerts enabled when severe thunderstorms are in the area.

The NWS will continue to monitor storm activity across southern Tennessee and northern Alabama, though no additional tornadoes were reported Saturday.
