Huntsville, Alabama – Dangerous heat will blanket North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee through Thursday evening, with heat index values reaching as high as 107 degrees in cities including Huntsville, Florence, Cullman, and Fayetteville.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Cullman, Lincoln, and Moore counties until 7 p.m. Thursday. Residents in Decatur, Athens, Russellville, and Muscle Shoals should take extra precautions as temperatures and humidity combine for oppressive conditions.
First responders and emergency officials urge everyone to stay indoors if possible, especially during peak afternoon hours. Local hospitals report a higher risk for heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly among the elderly, children, and outdoor workers. Authorities recommend drinking plenty of water, seeking air conditioning, and avoiding strenuous activities outside. Drivers should never leave pets or children in vehicles, even for a short time.
Schools and municipal offices across Madison and Limestone counties are monitoring conditions and may adjust outdoor schedules. Power companies in the region urge customers to conserve energy where possible as demand for air conditioning surges.
The Heat Advisory extends through 7 p.m. Thursday, with more weather updates possible if the pattern persists into Friday.
