Huntsville, AL – Dangerous heat and afternoon storms will hit northern Alabama on Friday, August 1, prompting a weather alert for Huntsville and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday, but Friday won’t offer much relief. Temperatures will rise to 90°F by midday Friday, with heat index values topping 100°F and a 30% chance of thunderstorms developing after 1 p.m. The risk will impact commutes on U.S. Highway 72 and U.S. 231.
Friday night will remain humid and partly cloudy, with lows around 70°F. Gusts may reach 15 mph, especially near storm cells.
Saturday continues the summer weather alert pattern, bringing a 40% chance of afternoon storms and highs near 86°F. North and east winds will offer mild relief, but heavy rainfall could slow travel and outdoor plans. By Sunday, the rain risk drops to 20%, with skies staying partly sunny and highs pushing 85°F.
Looking ahead, Monday through Wednesday brings gradual warming, with Monday reaching 87°F and Tuesday peaking at 90°F under mostly sunny skies. Thunderstorms are possible again late Monday night.
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor labor during peak heat hours, and keep weather alerts on as conditions evolve.
Heat-related illnesses remain a concern into early next week, especially for those without reliable cooling. More advisories may follow if storms intensify or heat lingers longer than forecast.
