Birmingham, Ala. – Severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and hail to parts of Alabama early Saturday, as a watch remains in effect for 27 counties through 10 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers north and central Alabama, including Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and Gadsden. Strong storms are possible throughout the morning, with wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail up to quarter-size.

Counties included in the watch range from Lauderdale and Madison in the north to Tuscaloosa and Talladega in central Alabama. The threat could impact morning travel along I-65, I-20, and U.S. 431. Power outages and downed trees are possible in storm-affected areas.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during severe weather, secure outdoor objects, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates. Avoid driving during strong wind bursts or heavy rain bands, and charge devices in case of power loss.

Storms may weaken later this morning, but additional alerts could be issued depending on system movement. Another round of storms is possible later this weekend.
