Huntsville, Alabama – Heavy rain and gusty winds could snarl commutes and flood low-lying roads across North Alabama through Friday evening as a prolonged storm pattern grips the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, thunderstorms are likely at any hour between now and Saturday night, with a 70–80% chance of rain today and Friday. Wind gusts up to 50 mph may develop, especially during stronger storm cells, increasing the risk of tree damage and hazardous driving conditions.
Cities across the Tennessee Valley—including Decatur, Florence, and Scottsboro—may see minor flooding from ponding on roads and poor drainage areas. Lightning and localized downpours will be the primary concerns, particularly during overnight hours when visibility drops. Thursday’s highs will hover around 75°F, with lows in the upper 50s.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to secure outdoor items that could blow away. Power outages are possible if wind gusts down tree limbs or power lines.
Drier air is expected to return late Saturday, bringing some relief ahead of Sunday’s lower rain chances. Additional weather alerts may be issued if storm activity intensifies or flash flooding develops.
