Huntsville, Alabama – Strong storms could slow down midweek commutes in Huntsville as widespread rain and thunder roll in by Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday between 1 and 4 p.m., with gusty winds and brief downpours possible. Rain chances stay elevated through Thursday, with another round of thunderstorms possible by Thursday night.
Drivers along I-565 and Highway 72 should expect slick conditions during peak travel hours. The NWS says isolated storms could bring up to a quarter inch of rain, with higher amounts in localized thunderstorms. Winds will pick up to near 10 mph out of the south.
By Friday, showers remain likely with a 50% chance of rain, and Saturday follows a similar trend. Although highs stay mild, ranging from the mid-70s to near 80°F, springtime instability will keep skies unsettled across North Alabama.
Residents should prepare for brief power disruptions or street flooding in low-lying areas, especially during periods of heavy rain. Outdoor plans and school sports events may be delayed or rescheduled through the end of the week.
