Huntsville, AL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact north Alabama and parts of southern middle Tennessee on Thursday, April 10. The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a warning for the possibility of large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for isolated tornadoes.
The storm threat is expected to begin in the afternoon, with the most intense weather anticipated between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Residents of Florence, Huntsville, and Cullman are most at risk. The NWS reports that hail larger than 1 inch and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are possible, especially from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Authorities recommend seeking shelter indoors during the storm and staying weather-aware. For those with outdoor plans, staying up to date with storm alerts is critical. The NWS advises everyone to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including a weather radio, smartphone, or local news.
While the risk of tornadoes remains low, damaging winds and hail remain the primary threats for the area.
