Birmingham, Alabama – A soggy week across Alabama may finally dry out Friday, but not before a brief round of severe weather threatens parts of the state through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a cold front moving through on May 31 will bring a limited chance for damaging winds and hail between noon and 6 p.m., especially across southeastern portions of Central Alabama. Cities like Montgomery, Auburn, Troy, and Eufaula could see storms packing gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to a quarter size.
The risk remains low overall, but those in areas south and east of Selma, Clanton, and Alex City should remain alert during peak heating hours. Rain chances are expected to end once the front clears the region, likely by 6 p.m., bringing much-needed relief to the waterlogged state.
Travelers should avoid outdoor activities during the afternoon and secure loose items. Keep phones charged and weather alerts enabled in case warnings are issued.
More updates may follow Friday morning if storm potential increases. As of now, the highest risk appears isolated and short-lived.
