Birmingham, Alabama – A dangerous line of severe storms is expected to sweep across much of Alabama overnight, bringing the threat of 60 mph wind gusts, hail, and possible power outages through 3 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 328 now covers 45 counties—including Montgomery, Jefferson, and Tuscaloosa—until 3 a.m. CDT. An earlier watch, number 324, remains in effect until 11 p.m. for north-central counties like Blount, Etowah, and Marion.

Cities under the greatest risk include Birmingham, Montgomery, Auburn, and Selma, with storms moving eastward and intensifying into the evening. Local emergency agencies urge residents to secure outdoor items and charge electronic devices before potential outages.

Strong wind gusts could down trees and power lines, especially along I-65 and I-85 corridors. Some hail has already been reported in west-central Alabama, with additional damage possible if storms continue to strengthen.

Travelers are advised to avoid nighttime driving where possible. These storms may linger or redevelop early Monday as the system pushes into Georgia.

More warnings or advisories could be issued overnight as the situation evolves.
