Birmingham, Alabama – Severe storms are expected to develop across much of central Alabama this afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail up to quarter size. The storms are forecast to move through from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the National Weather Service urging residents to remain vigilant.
A flood watch remains in effect through 7 p.m. for several counties, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery, as heavy rainfall continues to fall. Additional rain between 0.5 to 1.5 inches is expected, with some isolated areas receiving up to 2 inches. This could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and along creeks and rivers.
According to the National Weather Service, it is critical for residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and to know where their safe places are in the event of severe weather. As a precaution, avoid driving in flooded areas and stay indoors if conditions worsen.
The storm threat is expected to subside by 10 p.m., but more weather updates may follow as conditions evolve. Stay tuned for any new advisories or warnings.
