Huntsville, AL – A warm and wetter-than-normal pattern is developing across Alabama from Nov. 29th through Dec. 5th, bringing multiple rounds of rainfall statewide as December begins.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures are forecast to run above normal across all of Alabama, including north Alabama around Huntsville, central areas such as Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, and southern and coastal regions stretching toward Mobile and Gulf Shores. With warm air dominating the Southeast, all precipitation will fall as rain, eliminating any threat of early-season snow.

NOAA’s precipitation outlook also features a strong above-normal precipitation signal, indicating several storm systems may sweep through the Lower Mississippi Valley. Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley may experience steady rain, with heavier pockets possible during peak system passages.

Central Alabama — including Montgomery, Clanton, and Selma — is also expected to see multiple rain rounds, potentially creating ponding on roadways during busy travel hours. In southern Alabama, Mobile, Daphne, and Dothan may see some of the heaviest rainfall totals, especially if Gulf moisture surges inland.

Forecasters emphasize that the pattern is not driven by one major storm but by a multi-system setup, producing reduced visibility, slick roads, and localized minor flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas along I-65, I-20, I-59, and coastal highways.

As December begins, Alabama residents should prepare for a warm, humid, and rain-filled week.
